Spring Term Update

In January, we got the opportunity to go on our first off-site visit. We went to Newbury to explore and experience the Living Rainforest. It was amazing to see a variety of animals from the rainforest biome and to learn about and experience their habitat. Everyone was very excited to see the sloth and had a fantastic time which brought our topic to life.

This amazing experience was a great way to get ideas for our first art topic of 2024. The trip, combined with the chance to get outside in the grounds and the learning lodge was fantastic inspiration for our rainforest collages. We used different surfaces and leaves to make textured rubbings to add into our work. These were a great contrast to the marbled paper we had created for the backgrounds.

Also, as part of our continuing rainforest topic, we were lucky enough to have a specialist dance teacher come in and teach us party-style Samba moves, that are synonymous with the Rio Carnival in Brazil. Jo taught us lots of authentic Samba moves including the iconic Samba step, which is very fast and harder than it looks!

This experience was good experience for another workshop we have been lucky enough to enjoy. The Beat Goes On are a music company that teaches children to use parts of their body to create music. We had so much fun and created a very infectious rhythmic piece of music.
